Mods Cuvée 2022 Pinot Noir

Sta. Rita Hills, California

The 2023 Co^lluvial™ “Mods Cuvée” Pinot bottling is grounded in the majesty of California’s Santa Rita Hills AVA (American Viticultural Area). The fruit is drawn from the Rio Vista Vineyard. Rio Vista Vineyards is a 65-acre estate planted in 2000 located at the southeastern, easternmost edge of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA along Santa Rosa Road in Santa Barbara County, primarily producing Pinot Noir. Dominated by limestone, sedimentary soils, and sandy loam marine layers. Planted with Pinot Noir clones including 115, 667, 777, 828, 2A, Pommard, and Calera.

Tasting Notes

Two heritage clonal selections, Pommard & Calera, which were co-fermented as an experiment thinking about my youngest daughter, Mari or “Mods” her preferred nickname.  The wine delivers some savory “spicy” notes wrapped around red-purple flowers on the nose.  The palate is filled with some dark berry fruits, mineral undertones and that spicy almost “piney” note from its stem inclusion during fermentation.
